APPROACH TO THERAPY

INTEGRATIVE

Integrates elements of different psychological theories and techniques, tailored to the particular needs of the client.  Within this framework, Dr. Becker synthesizes interventions and is not bound by the conventions of one particular school of thought.

INTEGRATIVE

PSYCHODYNAMIC

Focuses on insight about past experiences that lead to a new understanding about one’s identity.  Dr. Becker helps her clients heal unresolved issues and dysfunctional relationships.

PSYCHODYNAMIC
COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL

COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL (CBT)

Highlights new ways of thinking to change maladaptive emotions and behaviors.  Dr. Becker assists her clients in understanding the connections between what they think, what they tell themselves and the feelings and behaviors that result.

EMOTIONALLY FOCUSED

Emphasizes attachment to others and emotional understanding to help clients accept, express, regulate, make sense of and transform maladaptive coping into healthy expression and well-being.  Dr. Becker believes that human bonding and emotional intelligence is a primary protection against hopelessness.

EMOTIONALLY FOCUSED

MINDFULNESS

Focuses on the present moment while carefully observing thoughts and feelings without judging them.  Dr. Becker helps her clients reduce stress, enhance performance, and gain insight and peace (rather than dwelling on the past or anticipating the future).
